The performance “Love in times of war” closes the eco-artistic residency “Of Water and Wine” organized in Cyprus by ITI Italia

Saturday, May 31st, at 8:00 pm, in Kalopanayiotis, at the Venetian Bridge, the premiere of “Love in time of war”.

“Love in times of war” is the new international performance directed by Fabio Tolledi with the participation of artists and extended reality experts from Cyprus, Italy, Romania, Georgia. Its production is part of the European project “Nature, Arts, Technologies“, coordinated by International Theatre Institute Italy, in partnership with Cyprus Centre of ITI, UNITER (Romania), HDACIS (Georgia) and AVR Lab of University of Salento (Italy) and co-founded by European Union, Creative Europe program.

At the heart of the performance there are texts of Marguerite Duras, the great French writer who deconstructed gender-based stereotypes through her freedom, her engagement, in life, in literature, theatre and cinema. Her novels are a chant that questions human beings on the complexity of existence, crossing the threshold that can unite or separate people, that can make them love or hate.

“Love in times of war” is freely inspired by some of her works: “The Lover” and “The Malady of Death”. Duras opposes all power, in an emancipation process that gives her a surprisingly wide freedom, the freedom of body, of behavior, of the experience of the world, in a spiritual and carnal dimension, a feminine outlook that shades a new light on human beings and the world. The characters are almost archetypes drawn from the depths of a life and risen to the absolute of literature. Often nature merges with the body experience, the sea, the forest have a cosmic breath that enters the bodies, that creates wide visions and emotions. The multilingual, site-specific performance is a reflection on love, on human nature, with its touching beauty, as well as its destructive power. Played in absolute premiere in a wonderful site, like the Venetian Bridge in Kalopayaiotis village, the performance intertwines many languages in a choral chant where love and desire claim for their existence, against any conflict.
